Growing up I’ve always been intrigued by the topic “Keys to Success” and “Success” in general. As an observant one for that matter I study everything around me, I read up any writing on success I could lay my hands upon, it has always been a fascinating topic to me.
I asked so much questions on the disparity in this world, the reason so many people are struggling to no avail and why there is a difference between those that have managed to achieve success and those that did not. Questions like “What are the keys to success?” flew through my mind, though I have managed to gather up some things as I grow daily I still live with chronicles of mystery that is yet to be uncovered by my young mind.
Being successful is what every human being desire, while . We are inspired by stories of men and women that have hit landmark in their career and we want to be like them.
However, the ‘behind the scene’ work done by these people , the price paid by them is what most of us don’t talk about, success is built, its not stumbled upon or gotten by luck. It takes years of hardwork, diligence, perseverance to reach that landmark.
Lots of books have been written, and lots of courses have been designed to teach people on how to be successful. However the aim of this post is to shine light on some aspects of your life that has strong impact on how you will achieve success.
Three area of your life that will influence your success include:
As an human, you and I are fundamentally wired to be social, aspects like love and relationship plays a huge role in shaping who we are. In our lives its important to keep a good and healthy relationship with people as this goes a long way, it constitute foundational part of our success.
In his video “What makes a good life” Robert Waldinger shared with us the results of the long term study on people some kept good relationships, others don’t. At the end of the study, people who kept good relationships ended up being more happy and more successful in life, while those who didn’t keep good relationships are less happier and less successful.
When you keep good & healthy relationship, you live a more happy life which in turn positively boost how productive you will be. Apart from helping to sustain a good mental health, when you maintain good relationship will people you are more likely to get help.
Even though its hard to maintain, here are some tips on how to maintain a good relationship. – Learn to forgive. – Care about people – call them to ask about welfare, be concerned about their welfare. – Spend time with people. – Be kind.
The business dictionary defines attitude as “a predisposition or a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain idea, object, person or situation”. It says attitude influences an individual’s choice of action and responses to challenges, incentives and rewards.
Attitude are dispositions, they are the way we react to situations, maintaining the positive attitude towards situations and challenges is important. Being positive is an attitude, and its important where success is desired, its gives you power to overcome challenges, to cross limits, to achieve success.
There can’t be any success without education (either formal or informal) . Formal education is the type we get in school, informal is outside of school. Education is a prerequisite to success, there can’t be success without work, through education we learn to develop skill necessary to make our dreams comes true. If you want to be successful, invest heavily in yourself, be it by taking courses, reading books, attending seminars etc, just keep learning.
Knowledge can become obsolete in this rapid developing world, which is why learning should not stop, you improve on what you know, being successful entails being able to accomplish tasks, to test and overcome limits. The more you improve on your knowledge, and the more skillful you become, your problem solving abilities also improve.

Long term planningGrandmaster chess players have one thing in common, it’s the ability to foresee events.
They have the ability to plan about eight to ten moves ahead, and plan out their winning strategies.
This applies to every highly achieving people and businesses, A long-term planning is about setting a process by which a particular strategic plan will be achieved.
Adaptability & FlexibilitySomething notable about grandmaster chess players is the ability to quickly adapt to what’s going on in front of them, while from experience they may be able to understand patterns of their opponent, they don’t 100% predict the opponent’s next move.
So also is life, though you might plan ahead , sometimes, things do not go as planned, so it’s an important life skill to be able to adjust to these situations and continue on in life you should also prepare for the unexpected and adapt as quickly as possible.
It doesn’t matter how good they become, chess grandmasters always have someone to coach and support them. Someone that will point out the weaknesses they wouldn’t usually see in themselves.
A person that will challenge them to think harder than they’ve ever thought before…And someone that will be there for them during the times when they want to give up.
When you have a mentor in your life, it becomes easier to see where you’ve been going wrong or what you’ve been missing.
They learn from their mistakes. Most people don’t like thinking about their mistakes. It makes them uncomfortable and stressed. And so most people avoid thinking about them altogether. They continue in life making the same mistakes over and over again.
Chess grandmasters, on the other hand, accept their mistakes. And they study the games they lost, they are humble enough to realize that they are just human and that they make mistakes like everyone else.
They also know that their mistakes don’t define them. And they quickly move on with a lesson.
When you learn from your mistakes, you’ll find it easier to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
“A teachable spirit and a humbleness to admit your ignorance or your mistake will save you a lot of pain. However, if you’re a person who knows it all, then you’ve got a lot of heavy-hearted experiences coming your way.”
― Ron Carpenter Jr
They learn from the best.Success leaves clues and it’s true in chess too.Chess grandmasters get all the chess books they can. They study the games of other masters. And they see how they can bring new ideas to their own games. They’re not afraid of learning from others, or accepting that they aren’t the smartest or best. They know that the only way they’ll get better is by staying humble.
When you learn from others, from their mistakes and experiences, it’s like a fast track to success in life, this lesson I’ve studied and learnt the hard way. Instead of working it all out yourself, why not just follow a proven path to success?
This doesn’t mean you won’t experience your own mistakes, but learning from someone who has crossed the limits you’re struggling with will undoubtedly catalyse your own success.
